Your love delivered, and we are grateful! This summer, your FAIR DAY Picnic & Diaper Drive donations totaled 13,408 diapers. This fall, those diapers are going to teen mothers in Houston-area high schools. Read more about the first annual FAIR DAY.
On the morning of the 1st Annual Love Bug Bundles FAIR DAY Picnic & Diaper Drive, the board arrived to set up in the already sweltering Houston heat with one wish:
10,000 diapers
To be honest, we were not convinced our goal was attainable. However, we planned to do everything in our power to achieve it while also providing a day of good old-fashioned family fun. In our tradition of hosting creative events that make giving fun, we planned nostalgic activities like kickball, cooking out, family photos, face painting, relays, and more.
Promptly at 10:00 a.m., a group dressed in red shirts began walking toward the pavilion. As they came closer, we could see it was one of our kickball teams, the Roaches. Their spirit set the tone for the day.
Diapers began piling up. Food went on the grill. Families posed in our picnic backdrop for snapshots. And...the kickball tournament began! The Roaches, Lightning Bugs, Stink Bugs, and Doodle Bugs played their hearts out. In the end, the Roaches were the champs.
The event also marked a greater step toward community involvement. We were honored to welcome special guest Fort Bend County Council Member Felecia Evans-Smith, who not only offered invaluable advice but also rolled up her sleeves and helped at the event.
As a four-person volunteer board, we were grateful for the volunteer support that was essential to hosting such a large-scale event. In addition to our wonderful family and friends, members of Bellaire Young Mothers provided an energizing force around the diaper drive.
As FAIR DAY came to a close, our diaper tally had reached 7,300 and we filled a large SUV. However, the donations kept coming through our Amazon.com registry. After a final count, your love delivered:
13,408 diapers
Thank you for your diaper donations! We are grateful for your support and hope to see you again soon!
We are pleased to share that all of the diapers have been delivered to teen mothers at Houston-area high schools.
